Things to look forward to in 2025

·

Midweek post. I’ve been meaning to post this for a little while but keep forgetting to actually do so hence the glimmers are getting longer and looking forward to shorter as I keep having to edit it as I’m going past things! Silly me! But there is still so much to look forward to so I’ve got that to hold onto!

I’ve been feeling a little down since I have a case of the ‘glandy feevs’ as my wife keeps calling it (glandular fever, I’ve got glandular fever) and it caused us to miss our Disney trip recently (we were meant to go to Disneyland at Christmas, I’ve never been at Christmas before), and it’s having an effect on my basic functions. I’m trying to convince myself that this is not my forever (it’s hard when as a chronically ill person you have already had so much stripped away from you) and the future will be a brighter one. SO! I wanted to write a little blog post about what I’ve got going on in the upcoming months.

But this year hasn’t had the sunniest of starts. Like the end of 2024 it’s been pretty consumed by grief so there’s been a lot of grief-aligning activities ongoing in our world unfortunately. But they’re not ‘bad’ per-se. These acts were to honor our friends. I just wanted to start this post with an ode to our lost loved ones

  • We started 2025 on a not very joyous note, but I was blessed to be a part of giving my wonderful friend Tiff a wonderful send off. The loss of her life in November was heartbreaking but it was an honour to celebrate her life with her other friends and family.
  • We made a special trip down to the sea front, as ever, (though it is local now) for Indie’s birthday. This is our special way to commemorate them.
  • It was a year since Mama Lu passed away. We lit a candle in her honour.
  • The 3 year anniversary of Jess’ passing came around too. We went to the beach and lit a candle for her (of course, a Christmas one) to remember her.

I miss every single one of them every single day (and every minute too).

But moving on to the main part of the post, I’ll start with a few glimmers we’ve already started the year off with:

  • Em and I have celebrated our 2 1/2 year anniversary! We went to Pizza Express as per tradition, and tried out what is our new local for the first time after moving.
  • My best friend came from Surrey to visit. They’d never visited Fareham before so it was so lovely to have them come and stay but they are coming back in the summer too. They enjoyed being here which was lovely and we loved hosting them.
  • We went to see Dear Evan Hansen at the Mayflower Theatre! I saw it on the West End in 2019 but not with a very nice person but I re-associated those memories with Fi and Em on tour which was lovely! It was a phenomenal show so I loved seeing it again.

And now, the things to look forward to:

  • We are going to see An Evening of Burlesque at the Mayflower Theatre which is exciting – I don’t think I’ve ever seen live burlesque but it seems right up my street so I’m excited!
  • It’s Valentine’s Day – We are going to stay in an airbnb in Bath with a hot tub! We’ll be visiting that area over the weekend.
  • We are going to the twice postponed (thanks funeral, thanks glandy feevs) Taskmaster experience! I’m so excited as we have adored it since the first series so the experience is going to be a blast!
  • Blackpool – at the end of February we are going to Blackpool to celebrate my Grandma’s birthday. Sadly she passed away in 2022 but the family still make an effort to come together to celebrate her and Blackpool is a meaningful place for the family (especially Grandma)
  • At the end of March/start of April we are going to Yorkshire to celebrate my Dad’s birthday. It’s his present to be taken away by his kids (myself, my wife, my sister and her girlfriend) and we plan to do a cheese cream tea, see some waterfalls and other things in the cute little villages around that area.
  • We are going to see Hamilton at the Theatre! I’ve seen it 3 times before on the West End but not since 2018 so it will be nice to see it again.
  • Our besties Char and Erin are coming to visit us again ❤️ we miss them so much
  • In May, we are going to Disneyland Paris! Disneyland is my happy place, my home, and also my main special interest. I am beyond excited to be going back and I am saving up my money every month to make sure I have decent spending money because I go wild.
  • In June we are going to Polperro in Cornwall! I can’t wait to explore Looe and Polperro as they are such cute, quaint places, and I can’t wait to visit my guy Marlin at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary!

Alone on Main Street. 7.30am. My birthday 2024.

Anyway, that’s all from me today. What are you looking forward to? I’d love to hear. I hope you have positives in your future that can keep you going like I do. We all need some in dark times.

Stay safe, stay strong and look after yourself,

Love always,

Laur xxx
